Getting started with Chatbuddy order-taking
Getting your customers' orders never need to take up most of your time, if you've got an automated assistant like Chatbuddy to help you talk to your customers.

No matter the type of products you have, no matter the industry you're in, if you're interested in selling your wares online to make the most out of your online presence, Chatbuddy can accommodate your needs.

There are two common setups that Chatbuddy can easily set up for you depending on how you'd like to take your customers' orders online, and we'll go through both here!

Common Ordering Setups

Setup #1 - You'd like customers to order and pay online immediately.

This is perfect for items that are:
  1. always in stock and on-hand,
  2. or easily made to order with little to no variation in price,
  3. or delivered electronically
Common businesses that fall under this setup include most restaurants with dine-in/take-out/delivery services; ecommerce shops with reliable on-hand stock; downloadable online classes or content; etc.

Setup #2 - You'd like customers to give you their order first, and pay only after your manual confirmation.

This works for products that are:
  1. very limited in stock,
  2. or are bespoke and don't have a set price
Common products that work with this kind of setup include tailored clothing; small-batch goods and commodities; customized goods and products; low availability goods; etc.

Setting Up Your Product Catalog

Getting your products into your chatbot is straightforward.
  1. Send us your list of product categories, if any.
  2. Send us your list of products, complete with description and images (if any) as well as price. (Check out our How to Get Started guide!)
  3. We'll set up your chatbot to display your product details and prices when customers order!
It's that simple!

What Your Customers can Expect

When your customers message your chatbot, we'll give your customers your available product categories (if you'd like them set up that way).

Important tip
It's best to set up product categories for your offerings unless you have a very small product list. Your customers will appreciate how much easier it is to browse through your products if you have good categories set up!

Product categories in Chatbuddy

After selecting their preferred category, customers can cycle through the available products under that category right in the chat window.

After selecting a preferred product, they can choose how many of it they would like to order (or type in the chat window directly!)



A running subtotal is given to the customer when they order, just so that they don't forget what they have in their "cart"!



Customers can continue to checkout, or continue to add items to their order. Once they're ready, they can start the checkout process, which will ask them for their contact information to handle the order.



There are many additional features you can choose to enable for your chatbot. For example:
  1. You can prompt for promotional discount codes that you can give out to your customers
  2. Requiring a one-time PIN or password in order to continue with the order process may reduce bogus orders
  3. You can remind your customers that they have a pending, uncompleted order with you if a long time has passed without any input from them
